The Remote Control, sometimes shortened as RemoCon and many times referred as Remote Bomb and Remote Control Bomb, is a recurring power-up in the Bomberman series.
Description
This bomb allows the player to detonate bombs at any given time. This makes it much more convenient for timing blasts. This item icon is mostly represented by a orange heart (pink in some games) with a bomb on it. The icon can also be literally a remote, or a blue colored bomb (Bomberman Story DS). This item can be difficult to come across because of its high value. Despite this ability, if another bomb explodes next to a Remote Control bomb, the Remote Control Bomb will explode, rendering the ability useless if performed incorrectly.
The bomb usually has a different appearance when the item is collected. In the earlier games, there was no difference between the Normal Bomb and Remote Control Bomb. The bomb will look more like a mine and sometimes have a small antenna on top of it.
Usage
The item works by setting the bomb and using a different button to detonate it. This makes it easier for the player to command the ability. In most games, this item is temporary and usually lost whenever the player is killed. This happens in Bomberman (NES), and obviously in multiplayer.
In Super Bomberman and Bomberman 64, the Remote Control can be combined with the Red Bomb to form a bomb that retains the full abilities of both power-ups that's what's known as the Red Remote Control Bomb.
In Bomberman Quest, it is an equippable weapon. It can be found in a chest in Beach Zone.
In Bomberman Story DS, it is known as Remote Bomb, and is one of the colored bombs. It works like the usual remote control bombs. It is dropped by enemies, found in chests or can be bought at the Galaxy Shop for 200 Gold. The player can hold up a maximum of 99 Remote Bombs in their inventory.
In Bomberman 64, this item is pretty much required in order to create a proper staircase of bombs and use the Bomb Jump without any trouble, and access difficult areas.
In Bomberman 64: The Second Attack!, the Remote Control is found in sometimes hard-to-reach areas. As with Bomberman 64, the player can perform the Bomb Jump. However, during boss battles and destruction of the Gravity Generators, the Remote Control is disabled, even when the player has the Guardian Armor's headgear.
In Atomic Bomberman, it is known as Trigger Bomb. Picking up one of this item only gives a limited number of trigger bombs equal to the player's bomb capacity, and picking up another bomb item also restocks one trigger bomb. Due to bombs already colored the same with players, a trigger bomb has the word "Boom" on it. If a player dies, its already placed trigger bombs become normal bombs.
Some Charaboms use this ability.
In Bomberman Jetters: Densetsu no Bomberman, Pox uses this ability.
Trivia
- According to the manga in the Japanese Super Bomberman 2 Hudson Official Guidebook, Brain Bomber is the creator of the bomb.
- A similar shaped type of bomb also appears in the Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden anime series.
